Peculiar Periodicals

It turns out there are even more unlikely publications than The Journal of Unlikely Science.
Every Thursday, our very own Dr Steer turns his attention to another improbable periodical.

This week: THE JOURNAL OF PEANUT SCIENCE

Name – Informative, not leaving much to the imagination, apart from... WHAT? How the heck do you fill a whole journal with peanut science? What is there that we don't know about peanuts?
Click to enlarge Front cover – Again, practical and to the point. Good use of a peanut picture to ram home the message, but, come on, colour scheme? This isn't the seventies any more, have some imagination.
Off-the-wallness – It's a winner! It never once crossed my mind that there could be a journal devoted solely to the study of peanuts. How can you not be impressed?
Usefulness – On reflection, I'm a big fan. Here is a journal dedicated to making my pub snack of choice as crispy and tasty as can possibly be. From seedling to pint, peanut science there all the way.
Impressiveness – They've got some good words - Azoxystrobin for instance, and Spotted Wilt. So plus marks there. However, there is a paper entitled: Determination of Maturity and ...[its] Success in Predicting Peanut Maturity. Huh? That just doesn't make sense. Lose two points
             -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Overall It's a niche publication, but a fine niche nonetheless. Every lover of salty snacking and feeding birds should rise up and thank the peanut scientists.

Impact factor: More of a crafty nudge than a full on whack.
