Milk In Tea Stops Health Benefit
By Anne Pawsey
The traditional British panacea of a nice cup of tea has many health benefits but a new study has shown that these are cancelled out by adding milk; no studies on the effects of dunking biscuits have been carried out.
Tea is a very popular drink worldwide second only to water. Its beneficial effects are important. The health benefits of tea have been widely studied and have indicated that it can protect against heart disease. However, no previous study has tested whether adding milk has any effect on these properties – so trust the Germans to come and rain on our parade!

Researchers from Berlin test the effect of adding milk to tea by analysing the blood flow of 16 human volunteers. They drank black tea, white tea or boiled water before their circulation was analysed using ultra sound. Whilst black tea had a positive effect on circulation white tea produced no effect.
For a nation of tea drinkers such as the Brits this is bad news, but sit down, have a nice hot cuppa and it won’t seem so bad after all.
